CSD01: Cognitive Skill Development
This course is designed for Grade 1 students to teach Cognitive Development Skills by addressing stages of CSD such as (1) Sensory motor stage (2) Preoperational stage. Cognitive development means how children think, explore and figure things out. It is the development of knowledge, skills, problem solving and dispositions, which help children to think about and understand the world around them. Brain development is part of cognitive development. Around age 6, children begin to change the way they think about the world. They leave behind the pre-schooler’s egocentric thinking and begin developing mature ways of understanding. A typical first- grader is able to perform simple addition and subtraction, and he or she usually begins to read and write the sentences. Children usually progress in a natural, predictable sequence from one developmental milestone to the next. But each child grows and gains skills at his or her own pace. Some children may be advanced in one area, such as language, but behind in another, such as sensory and motor development. Development usually is grouped into five major areas: physical growth, cognitive development, emotional and social development, language development, and sensory and motor development.
