CSD05: Cognitive Skill Development
This course is designed for Grade 5 students to teach Cognitive development skills by addressing concrete operational stage (7–11 years old) Formal operational stage (11 years old through adulthood) with an increasing attention span, children of this age group can carry out detailed directions, make step-by-step plans to carry out complex plans, and begin to use logic and reason in problem-solving. At this stage, children typically: Develop critical and abstract thinking skills. As children reach the age of 10, many will start to think of themselves as being almost teenagers. While some 10-year-olds will start looking and acting more mature, others will remain more child-like, both physically and emotionally. At this stage they can name the months of the year in order. Can read and understand a paragraph of complex sentences. Are reading books with chapters. Are skilled in addition and subtraction and are building skills in multiplication, division, and fractions.
