CSD08: Cognitive Skill Development
This course is designed for Grade 8 students to teach Cognitive development skills by addressing thirteen-year-olds are also developing the ability to think abstractly. Instead of only thinking in terms of tangible objects, they begin to understand concepts such as faith and trust. They may also think they are unique or believe that no one understands them. Around the age of 13, children learn to think about abstract concepts. They complete what Piaget termed the concrete operational period and enter the formal operation period. The hallmark achievements of concrete operations is that children display logical thinking, can serrate (arrange in a series) without trial and error, are able to conserve number, mass, and volume, and demonstrate a more strategic and methodical approach to problems. At this stage they will learn money or budgeting, cooking or dressing sense, cleanliness and hygiene, personnel health care and basic first aid, social skills manners and organisational skills. They learn to ask questions, practice role play, teach empathy, know their limits be a good role model.
