CSD02: Cognitive Skill Development
This course is designed for Grade 2 students to teach Cognitive development skills by addressing stages of Jean Piaget’s, (1) sensory motor stages (2) preoperational stages (3) concrete operational stage. we will bridge a gap between Year 1 & 2. Their reading and math skills will become more developed, and they’ll be able to write more legibly, tie their shoes on their own, and ride a two-wheel bike. At about the age of 7, children enter what Piaget termed Concrete Operational period. which lasts until they are about 12 years old. It is during this time that children gain better understanding of and facility with mental operations (e.g., can think about how to approach a problem and consider various outcomes). Teaching a 7-year-old can be a wonderful experience. You are now entering the middle childhood phase with your child. This means that your child is still dependent on you for many things, but is also becoming independent. They are social and crave friendships with their peers, but are also happy to hang out with their parents. Have a solid sense of time. They understand seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, seasons, and sometimes years. Begin to show a preference for learning style. For example, some children like hands-on activities, such as a science experiment with color.
